Language Arts

Because mastery of reading and language skills is so important to our daily lives, Iowa-Grant High School students are required to complete four credits of English before graduating. This is most commonly accomplished with Freshman English, Sophomore English, Junior English, and Senior English. A few elective choices exist for seniors. Those planning to attend a four-year college should take Senior English or Advanced Placement English:  Literature and Composition. If they earn a score of 3 or higher on the A.P. English test at the end of the year, they may be exempt from having to take one or more entry-level college English courses. Seniors planning to enter the workforce or a technical school upon high school completion might wish to consider taking Workplace Communications (Semester One)  and Business Communications (Semester Two), for which they will receive credit from both IGHS and Southwest Technical College in Fennimore.
